bored bored bored

I can't focus right now. I am trying, really trying to get into some sort of study mindset, but I really do not want to get back into the poetry thing right now. It was such a wonderful 5 weeks away, and I just don't want to do it yet.

I am however happy to be back in the swing of teaching. Last semester was so mediocre for me. But I am excited, I am teaching comp 2 for the first time and the freshness of it is very invigorating. Anyway I started a blog for it here. I have no idea what kind of success it may have. And sadly my review of class discussion pales in comparison to the discourse that really took place today. I love my students, they rule. oh and I already know all of their names, i rock. (Ok so I only had 7 to learn, but I think they were surprised that I remembered from just being told once at the beginning of class Monday). Okay I am going to do a sudoku puzzle to try to center myself. (you know with the lack of focus I have it doesnt help that the person in the next office keeps sighing loudly, does she want attention?)

Please sir, I want some more.

Panera has redeemed itself. I had a bad experience there once and never really tried it again. But today for lunch I had a huge craving for soup and as badly as I wanted to go to Hackneys for the Guinness Potato soup I tasted the other day, it's too far away for me to try to get to during my short lunchtime. So I decided to try out Panera because I've heard good things about their soup and it's ridiculously convenient now that they put one in University Center. I had the broccoli cheddar soup. YUM! In a sourdough bread bowl, wonderful. I have never been a big fan of sourdough bread, but when pieces of it are drowned in soup it's pretty darn good.

P.S. I have given up on ever dieting, ever. Oh and I'm suddenly a huge soup fiend.

back in favor with the dessert gods

Sean said he had some dessert to share and he came through. Crazy expensive gelato. Chocolate chip gelato. Worth ten dollars a pint gelato. Yumm.

Thanks babe.

the dessert gods hate me

So about a week and a half ago I got some lime whole fruit bars from Target, I should have followed my instincts when I thought the box felt a little odd ( one corner was like a little worn and crumply) but I was tired and didn't feel like walking all the way back to the freezers when I realized it at the check out line. Uggh. They had all melted and refrozen. They were so deformed.

Since I didn't get to indulge in the fruity goodness I decided a few days later to get some cookies n cream ice cream bars. They were yummy and I ate them very quickly. So when I went back to the store yesterday I decided to get more because they were almost gone. Well, I went to get one tonight after dinner, and when I grabbed the box it felt odd. Not like the whole fruit bar box though. It was just very firm on one end. So I figure that must just be the end with the actual bars, and the sticks are on the other end, right? Hmm. Well, when I opened the box I pulled one out and two came. The individual wrappers were stuck together. One of the bars was not sealed completely and somehow got that whole end of the box sticky.

grrrrrrr

apocalypse? Bring it

This reminded me of the earthquake survival activity I did in orientation training this summer. We had to order a list of priorities individually then in a group. Then we were given the "correct" order of priorities and were supposed to compare our individual scores to our group scores. The point of the activity was to illustrate that as a group your score should be better because you have others to work with--combined intelligence should be higher than individual. Hrrmmm. Well, on my own I had a near perfect score. When forced into a group we barely survived. Hey, I tried to save their asses, maybe after seeing the following results people will be more likely to listen to me in such situations.

The True Survivor

You scored 72 % ass-kickingness, 86% leadership, and 83% scavenging ability!
Congratulations, you scored the highest in all three categories: ass-kickingness, leadership, and scavenging skills. You are definitely going to survive the Apocalypse. Your abilites to lead others, fight in wars without any reservations, and contribute positively to the group by finding food and helping to build shelter are unmatched. You were made for this kind of shit!

Bea Arthur + Erik Per Sullivan + Abba = my favorite tv moment ever

It's been a slightly crappy day. Not terrible, but I am sick (for the second time this break). blar. I'd been looking forward to this day for a couple weeks, my first real day alone in a long time. I have been dying for some solitude. There are tons of things I want to get done before school starts back up, and today was going to be my first day to do anything I want. I know I am lucky to have this freedom at all, still it would have been nice to feel better than I do. I really wanted to go for a walk to the lake, since the weather was beautiful to boot. But the thing is I am getting my yearly bout with sinus infections and it hit me a lot harder today than I had expected. Nonetheless, I was able to relax a bit. I watched a couple of movies, listened to some music, cleaned the kitchen, read a bit and started making squares for an afghan. And lucky me, I got to see my favorite television scene ever, twice. Just before dinner I turned on the tv just in time to see the episode of Malcolm in the Middle where they go to a waterpark, leaving Dewey with a babysitter. I don't know what it is but the part when he and Bea Arthur dance around to Fernando always fills me with joy. It seriously made my day. A few hours later when Fox aired its second episode for the night, it was the one where Lois and Hal work on their will and they show various clips from past episodes. So, of course I got to see the dance again. yay for me.
